Remedial Corner is an inclusive learning and revision site for Ugandan secondary school learners, their teachers and their parents. It was founded on 20 February 2022 by Akankwatsa Andrew OBA and is based in Kiburara Town, Kasese, Uganda, about twenty-five kilometres from the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our motto is Make It Happen.
Who writes and reviews this material

Akankwatsa Andrew OBA is a teacher of History and Kiswahili and an accessibility specialist working in Uganda. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education (History and Kiswahili) from Makerere University, Kampala, awarded in 2019, and has worked as an officer in the Ministry of Education and Sports. Before founding Remedial Corner he worked as a Story Collector for Goal Global, documenting stories and producing audio and video material.
Every article on this site is written and reviewed by Andrew personally. He has taught the subjects the site covers, marks against the same syllabus the learners are examined on, and works directly with learners who face barriers to schooling.
Why the site exists
Ugandan secondary school learners lose years to circumstances rather than ability: school fees that cannot be paid, exclusions that were never really about discipline, and disability support that never arrives. Remedial Corner exists to make sure that a learner who has missed lessons — for a term, a year, or because they cannot see the board — can still find the syllabus explained clearly, in order, and for free.
- Revision notes written topic by topic against the NCDC O-level and A-level syllabi.
- Past papers and worked answers, because examination technique is half of the result.
- Quizzes for testing yourself before the real thing.
- Inclusive and special needs education material, including guidance for learners with visual impairment and for the teachers and parents supporting them.
- Classroom tools such as the lesson generator, and textbook links for learners who need a printed reference.
Accessibility is the point, not a feature
An education site that excludes disabled learners has misunderstood its own job. We write in plain language, keep headings in order so screen readers can navigate, give every image alt text that describes what it shows, and never rely on colour alone to carry meaning. Where a diagram carries data, we draw it as a diagram with legible labels rather than generating a picture of one. Our aims here are set out in the Disability Inclusion Statement.
How we write, and what we will not do
Material is checked against the official syllabus and exam requirements before it is published, and the person who writes it is named on it. We do not publish statistics we cannot point to a source for, we do not invent quotations, prices, results or school names, and we correct errors publicly when they are found. How we research, check and correct our work is set out in our editorial standards.
Remedial Radio
Alongside the website, Andrew runs Remedial Radio, where the same material is discussed aloud — useful for learners who revise by listening, and for those who find reading long text hard. You can listen to the stream here.
