How to Make an NCDC-Compliant Daily Lesson Plan

Master the 5-phase lesson plan framework (Introduction, Development, Guided Practice, Evaluation, Conclusion) for Ugandan secondary classrooms.

1 Fill in Administrative and Curricular Details

Record Class, Subject, Stream, Date, Duration (e.g. 80-minute double period), Topic, Sub-topic, and specific Measurable Learning Outcomes.

Target Outcomes: By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to do something tangible (e.g., “Demonstrate how to prepare a nursery seedbed”).

2 Plan Phase 1: Introduction & Spark (5–10 mins)

Engage learners with an intriguing question, a brief demonstration, a local artifact, or a short role-play that immediately hooks attention.

Spark Idea: Bring a real crop sample or show a historical photograph to stimulate curious questioning.

3 Plan Phase 2 & 3: Teacher Guidance & Collaborative Learning (40–50 mins)

Outline clear teacher actions and corresponding learner actions. Transition smoothly from teacher demonstration to structured small-group activities.

Group Dynamics: Assign specific roles within groups (Leader, Timekeeper, Secretary, Presenter) to guarantee full participation.

4 Plan Phase 4 & 5: Assessment, Conclusion & Reflection (15–20 mins)

Conduct a quick formative check (exit tickets, mini-quiz, or student presentations) to evaluate mastery, assign homework, and record self-evaluation notes.

Teacher Reflection: Leave space at the bottom to note what went well and what adjustments are needed for tomorrow.
